What is a SimBuster eSIM?

A SimBuster eSIM is a digital mobile data SIM that can be installed on a compatible phone or tablet without inserting a physical SIM card.

It is designed mainly for travel and international mobile data.

A typical journey is:

  1. Open eSIM in the SimBuster app.
  2. Choose the country or region you are travelling to.
  3. Select an available data plan.
  4. Complete the purchase.
  5. Install the eSIM using the instructions provided, normally by QR code or manual eSIM details.
  6. Choose the new eSIM for mobile data.
  7. Enable the settings required by the selected plan.
  8. Connect to a supported local mobile network.

You can normally keep your existing physical SIM or primary eSIM in the phone at the same time.

That means you can use a SimBuster eSIM for travel data while keeping your normal number available for calls and messages, subject to your phone’s dual-SIM capabilities and your main network’s roaming charges.

SimBuster travel eSIM data plans in the mobile app

What does a SimBuster travel eSIM include?

The exact service depends on the plan you choose.

A SimBuster eSIM plan can show details such as:

  • destination country or region;
  • mobile data allowance;
  • plan validity;
  • supported network or coverage information;
  • activation conditions;
  • whether more data can be added;
  • whether validity can be extended;
  • hotspot or tethering support where available; and
  • the price.

Read the plan details before purchasing.

Do not assume every country, network or eSIM package has identical conditions.

The information shown for the selected plan in the SimBuster app should be treated as the current plan specification.

Are SimBuster travel eSIMs data only?

Most SimBuster travel eSIM plans are mobile-data plans.

That means the eSIM itself may not provide:

  • a normal mobile telephone number;
  • traditional cellular voice calls; or
  • standard carrier SMS.

The services included with each plan are shown before purchase.

Even with a data-only travel eSIM, you can use internet-based services such as:

  • SimBuster app calls;
  • WhatsApp;
  • iMessage where configured;
  • internet messaging;
  • email;
  • maps;
  • ride-hailing apps;
  • web browsing;
  • video calls; and
  • other apps that use mobile data.

If you need a separate telephone number, use the Phone Numbers section of SimBuster.

eSIM vs SimBuster Phone Number

These are separate products.

SimBuster eSIM

Provides mobile data on a supported device and plan.

SimBuster Phone Number

Gives you a virtual phone number for supported calling, SMS and call-routing features.

You can use both together.

For example:

  1. Buy a SimBuster travel eSIM for mobile data in Spain.
  2. Keep your UK physical SIM in the phone.
  3. Use the SimBuster eSIM as the phone’s mobile-data connection.
  4. Use the SimBuster app over that data connection to make or receive supported calls on a SimBuster virtual number.

The eSIM provides the internet connection.

The SimBuster virtual number provides the telephony identity and call service.

eSIM vs physical SIM

A physical SIM is a removable chip inserted into the phone.

An eSIM is installed digitally into compatible device hardware.

The practical benefits of an eSIM when travelling include:

  • no physical SIM card to collect at an airport or shop;
  • no need to remove your normal SIM;
  • faster setup where digital activation is available;
  • the ability to keep multiple SIM profiles on many compatible devices; and
  • easier switching between your home service and travel data.

Your device still needs to support eSIM technology.

An eSIM also does not make a network available where there is no local mobile coverage.

Which countries have SimBuster eSIM plans?

SimBuster offers travel eSIM data plans across a large range of supported destinations.

Availability can change, so use the destination list in the SimBuster app or the current eSIM country pages rather than relying on an old list.

To check:

  1. Open eSIM.
  2. Search for your destination.
  3. Open the country or region.
  4. Review the plans currently available.

If a country is not shown, do not buy a neighbouring-country plan unless its coverage information specifically states that your destination is included.

Check that your phone supports eSIM

Before purchasing, confirm that the exact device you will travel with supports eSIM.

Compatibility varies by:

  • manufacturer;
  • model;
  • model variant;
  • country or region where the device was sold;
  • operating-system version;
  • carrier restrictions; and
  • whether the device is network locked.

Do not rely only on the model family name.

For example, two phones with very similar names can have different eSIM support depending on where they were purchased.

A simple check is to look in the phone’s mobile-network settings for an option such as:

  • Add eSIM
  • Add Mobile Plan
  • Add SIM
  • Set up an eSIM

If that option is not present, check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for your exact model.

Add eSIM option in a compatible smartphone mobile network settings

Make sure the phone is network unlocked

A phone can support eSIM technology but still be locked to a particular mobile carrier.

A carrier-locked phone may refuse to install or use a travel eSIM from another provider.

Before travelling:

  • check whether the device is unlocked;
  • contact the carrier that supplied the phone if you are unsure;
  • complete any carrier unlocking process before you leave; and
  • do not wait until you are abroad to discover that the phone is locked.

On iPhone, network-lock information can normally be checked under Settings → General → About.

The exact wording can vary by device and software version.

Read the eSIM plan details before buying

Before paying, check all the information shown for the plan.

Pay particular attention to:

  • data allowance;
  • destination coverage;
  • plan validity;
  • when validity begins;
  • supported networks;
  • whether hotspot or tethering is allowed;
  • whether more data can be added;
  • whether validity can be extended; and
  • any special activation instructions.

Two plans for the same country may not work in exactly the same way.

Do not choose only by the lowest price.

Choose the plan that fits:

  • the length of your trip;
  • the amount of data you expect to use; and
  • the countries you will actually visit.

Choose a country or regional eSIM plan

Use a country plan if most or all of your trip is in one destination.

Use a regional or multi-country plan where available if your trip crosses several supported countries and the plan explicitly includes them.

For example, a traveller visiting France, Spain and Italy may prefer one supported regional plan rather than installing a separate country plan for every border crossing.

Always check the actual country list included in a regional plan.

A plan described as regional does not automatically cover every country in that region.

How much eSIM data do you need?

Choose an allowance based on how you actually use your phone.

Light use

Suitable for:

  • messaging;
  • maps;
  • email;
  • occasional web browsing.

Normal travel use

Suitable for:

  • regular maps;
  • social media;
  • ride apps;
  • messaging;
  • browsing;
  • occasional video.

Heavy use

Consider more data if you regularly use:

  • video streaming;
  • video calls;
  • cloud backups;
  • large downloads;
  • laptop tethering;
  • high-resolution social media uploads; or
  • long SimBuster or internet voice/video calls.

Your phone’s background activity also uses data.

Automatic photo backup, software updates and cloud synchronisation can consume a large amount without you actively using the phone.

Understand eSIM plan validity

Every eSIM plan has its own validity rules.

For example, a plan may be valid for a specified number of days after the relevant activation event.

Check the exact validity shown before purchasing.

Do not assume:

  • every plan starts when you buy it;
  • every plan starts when you install it; or
  • every plan waits until you arrive.

The selected plan can determine when the validity period begins.

This is one of the most important things to check before installing an eSIM early.

When does an eSIM plan activate?

Activation conditions vary by plan.

Depending on the selected eSIM, validity may begin:

  • during installation;
  • after activation;
  • when the eSIM first connects to a supported destination network; or
  • according to another condition shown in the plan details.

Follow the instructions for the plan you purchased.

If the plan says it activates on installation, installing it a week before a short trip could waste part of the validity.

If it activates only on first connection to a supported destination network, installing before travel may be convenient.

Always check first.

Can you use hotspot or tethering?

Many eSIM plans and compatible phones support personal hotspot or tethering, but this can vary by plan and device.

Check the plan details before buying if you need to connect:

  • a laptop;
  • tablet;
  • another phone;
  • travel router; or
  • other Wi-Fi device.

Hotspot use can consume data quickly.

A laptop performing operating-system updates, cloud syncing or video calls can use far more data than normal phone browsing.

If hotspot is important for work, test it before an important meeting.

Open eSIM in the SimBuster app

Open eSIM from the SimBuster home screen.

This area lets you:

  • browse destinations;
  • compare available data packages;
  • buy an eSIM;
  • view purchased eSIMs;
  • access installation information;
  • check usage where supported;
  • add more data where available; and
  • extend validity where supported.
Open the eSIM section from the SimBuster app home screen

Search for your travel destination

Search by the country or region where you need mobile data.

Before choosing a plan, confirm that the destination name matches the place you are actually visiting.

If your trip includes several countries, look for a suitable regional plan if one is available.

Do not assume a plan for one country automatically roams into its neighbours.

Search for a travel destination in the SimBuster eSIM section

Choose the right eSIM data plan

Open the destination and compare the plans shown.

Look at:

  • amount of data;
  • validity;
  • price;
  • coverage;
  • activation conditions;
  • supported network information;
  • hotspot support;
  • add-more-data support; and
  • any special notes.

Choose a plan that gives you some margin rather than assuming you will use exactly the minimum amount of data.

If the app offers both small and large plans, compare the cost per GB as well as the total price.

Choose a SimBuster travel eSIM mobile data plan

Buy the eSIM

After choosing a plan:

  1. Review the destination.
  2. Confirm the data allowance.
  3. Confirm the validity.
  4. Check activation conditions.
  5. Review the final price.
  6. Complete payment using the available payment method.
  7. Wait for the order to complete.
  8. Open the purchased eSIM details.

Do not leave the payment flow simply because it takes a few seconds to confirm.

Avoid buying the same plan again until you have checked whether the first order completed.

Find a purchased eSIM

After purchase, open the eSIM area and locate the plan you bought.

The eSIM details should give you the information needed to install and use the service.

Depending on the plan, this can include:

  • QR code;
  • manual installation details;
  • status;
  • data allowance;
  • remaining data;
  • validity;
  • network information;
  • activation information;
  • add-more-data options; and
  • extend-validity options.

Do not publish or share the QR code or activation details.

They belong to the eSIM you purchased.

Should you install the eSIM before travelling?

Usually, installing before departure is convenient because you can use reliable Wi-Fi and solve any installation problem before you arrive.

But check the activation rule first.

If your plan starts validity when it is installed or activated, installing too early can reduce the usable time during your trip.

A safe workflow is:

  1. Buy the plan.
  2. Read its activation conditions.
  3. If installation does not start validity prematurely, install while you still have good Wi-Fi.
  4. Leave the travel eSIM turned off for mobile data until needed if appropriate.
  5. When you arrive, enable the travel eSIM and select it for data.
  6. Follow any roaming or APN instructions shown for that plan.

Install an eSIM using the QR code

Most travel eSIMs can be installed by scanning the QR code provided after purchase.

You normally need:

  • an eSIM-compatible phone;
  • an unlocked device;
  • a stable internet connection;
  • the SimBuster eSIM QR code; and
  • access to the phone’s Add eSIM or equivalent setting.

If the QR code is displayed on the same phone where you want to install the eSIM, use any supported on-device QR installation method available on that phone or display the code on another screen.

Do not share the QR code publicly.

A QR code can be tied to a specific eSIM profile and may not be reusable after installation.

The exact wording can vary by iOS version, but the normal route is:

  1. Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open Mobile Service or Cellular.
  4. Tap Add eSIM or Set Up Cellular.
  5. Choose the QR-code option.
  6. Scan the QR code supplied for the SimBuster eSIM.
  7. Follow the iPhone prompts.
  8. Add the mobile plan.
  9. Give the new plan a useful label such as SimBuster Travel.
  10. Choose which SIM should be used for mobile data.
  11. Follow any data-roaming instructions for the purchased plan.

On supported newer iOS versions, an eSIM QR code displayed in a supported email or browser may also offer an Add eSIM action when you press and hold it.

Do not delete the eSIM after installation just because you are not travelling yet.

  8. Complete installation.
  9. Give the eSIM a useful label.
  10. Select it for mobile data when required.
  11. Follow the plan’s roaming or APN instructions.

Android wording can change between versions.

If your device has been customised by a manufacturer or network carrier, the menu path can be different.

Install an eSIM manually

If QR installation is not practical and the purchased plan provides manual installation information, use the phone’s manual eSIM setup option.

The device may ask for information such as:

  • SM-DP+ address;
  • activation code; or
  • another provider-supplied value.

Copy the information exactly.

Do not add spaces, change capitalisation or substitute details from another eSIM.

Manual installation details are unique to the plan.

If the SimBuster eSIM page does not provide manual details, do not invent them.

Use the installation method provided with the purchased eSIM.

Give the eSIM a clear label

During or after installation, rename the new mobile plan to something obvious.

Examples:

  • SimBuster Travel
  • SimBuster Spain
  • SimBuster USA
  • Travel Data

This makes dual-SIM settings much easier to understand.

Without a clear label it is easy to accidentally:

  • use the wrong SIM for mobile data;
  • enable roaming on your home SIM;
  • turn off the travel eSIM; or
  • remove the wrong SIM profile.

A good label becomes especially useful if your phone already has more than one SIM or eSIM.

Do not delete an installed eSIM unless you are finished with it

Turning an eSIM off and deleting an eSIM are different actions.

Turn off

The eSIM profile remains installed and can normally be turned back on later while it is still valid.

Delete or remove

The eSIM profile is removed from the device.

A travel eSIM QR code or activation credential may be designed for one installation and may not reinstall automatically after deletion.

Unless you are certain the eSIM is finished or the current plan explicitly supports reinstallation, do not delete it as a troubleshooting step.

Try turning it off and back on first.

Turn on the travel eSIM

After installation, make sure the eSIM is enabled.

On a dual-SIM phone you can normally turn individual SIM lines on or off.

When travelling:

  1. Open your phone’s SIM or mobile network settings.
  2. Find the label you gave the SimBuster eSIM.
  3. Turn that SIM on.
  4. Choose it for mobile data.
  5. Enable data roaming for the travel eSIM if the selected plan requires it.
  6. Wait for the phone to register on a supported local network.

If the eSIM is installed but disabled, it cannot provide mobile data.

Select the SimBuster eSIM for mobile data

Installing an eSIM does not automatically guarantee that your phone will use it for data.

On a dual-SIM phone, choose the SimBuster travel eSIM as the Mobile Data, Cellular Data or equivalent SIM.

This is one of the most common setup mistakes.

If your home SIM remains selected for data while roaming abroad, your normal carrier may charge roaming fees.

After selecting SimBuster for data:

  • check the mobile-data symbol;
  • open a web page;
  • test maps or another internet app; and
  • confirm the phone is not falling back to the home SIM for data.
Select the SimBuster travel eSIM as the phone mobile data SIM

Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM when required

Travel eSIMs often connect through partner networks.

For many travel eSIM plans, Data Roaming must be enabled on the travel eSIM for mobile data to work.

This does not mean you should enable roaming blindly on every SIM in the phone.

Make sure you are changing the setting for the SimBuster travel eSIM, not the home SIM you are trying to protect from roaming charges.

A sensible setup is:

  • SimBuster travel eSIM → selected for mobile data;
  • Data Roaming → enabled on the SimBuster travel eSIM if required;
  • home SIM mobile data roaming → disabled unless you intentionally want to use your home carrier abroad.

Follow the plan-specific instructions shown after purchase.

Enable data roaming on the SimBuster travel eSIM for international mobile data

Keep your normal SIM active for calls and messages

On a compatible dual-SIM device, you can often keep your normal SIM active while using SimBuster eSIM for data.

A common travel setup is:

Main SIM

  • keeps your existing telephone number;
  • receives normal calls and SMS where your home carrier allows it.

SimBuster eSIM

  • provides mobile data.

This can be convenient for:

  • receiving bank messages;
  • keeping your usual number;
  • using WhatsApp with the same account;
  • receiving personal calls; and
  • using SimBuster app calling over the travel data connection.

Your normal carrier can still charge roaming fees for calls, SMS or data depending on its tariff.

SimBuster does not control charges made by your home mobile provider.

Avoid accidental roaming charges on your main SIM

If you want SimBuster eSIM to provide travel data, make sure your home SIM does not unexpectedly take over.

Before or shortly after arrival:

  1. Select SimBuster eSIM as Mobile Data.
  2. Turn off Data Roaming on your home SIM unless you intentionally need it.
  3. Review any option that allows automatic cellular-data switching between SIMs.
  4. Check which SIM the phone says is currently being used for mobile data.
  5. Test with Wi-Fi turned off.
  6. Check your home carrier’s roaming policy for incoming calls, outgoing calls and SMS.

Some phones offer automatic data switching if one SIM has poor service.

That can be useful at home but undesirable abroad if it causes the main SIM to use expensive roaming data.

Automatic vs manual network selection

Most of the time, leave Network Selection on automatic.

The phone should connect to a supported partner network available for the travel eSIM.

If the eSIM does not connect:

  1. wait a few minutes after arrival;
  2. toggle Airplane Mode on and off;
  3. restart the phone;
  4. check that the travel eSIM is on;
  5. confirm data roaming is set correctly;
  6. try automatic network selection again; and
  7. if the plan instructions list supported networks, try selecting one manually where your phone permits it.

Do not select a random network simply because its name appears.

The eSIM needs a network supported by the plan.

Check APN settings if your plan requires them

An APN, or Access Point Name, tells the phone how to connect to a mobile-data service.

Many eSIMs configure this automatically.

Some plans may require a specific APN.

If SimBuster provides APN information for your purchased eSIM:

  • enter it exactly;
  • put it on the travel eSIM, not your home SIM;
  • do not add a username or password unless the instructions provide one;
  • save the APN where required;
  • select it if the device requires selection; and
  • restart the data connection after making changes.

If no APN is provided, do not copy an APN from another eSIM provider or an internet forum.

APN settings for a SimBuster travel eSIM when required by the selected plan

Connect for the first time when you arrive

When you arrive at the destination:

  1. Turn off Airplane Mode.
  2. Turn on the SimBuster travel eSIM.
  3. Select it for mobile data.
  4. Enable data roaming on that eSIM if required.
  5. Wait for the phone to find a supported network.
  6. Turn Wi-Fi off temporarily.
  7. Open a simple webpage or maps.
  8. Check the SimBuster eSIM usage or status after the connection is working.

First registration can take a short time.

Do not repeatedly delete and reinstall the eSIM while the device is still trying to register.

SimBuster travel eSIM connected to a supported local mobile network

Can you use WhatsApp, maps and other apps?

Yes. A working SimBuster data eSIM provides an internet connection that can be used by apps on your phone.

Typical uses include:

  • WhatsApp;
  • Telegram;
  • Signal;
  • iMessage data features;
  • Google Maps;
  • Apple Maps;
  • Uber and other ride apps;
  • email;
  • social media;
  • web browsing;
  • banking apps;
  • video calling; and
  • SimBuster itself.

Installing a data eSIM does not normally change your WhatsApp account number by itself.

Your WhatsApp identity remains tied to the number registered with WhatsApp unless you intentionally change it inside WhatsApp.

Can you keep making calls with your main SIM?

On a supported dual-SIM phone, yes.

You can often use:

  • the home SIM for ordinary cellular calls and SMS; and
  • the SimBuster travel eSIM for mobile data.

However, ordinary calls made or received through your home mobile carrier can still attract roaming charges.

Check your home carrier’s tariff before using the normal SIM abroad.

If you want to avoid home-network international or roaming call charges, consider using SimBuster calling over the travel data connection where appropriate.

Use SimBuster calls over your travel eSIM data

A useful combination is to use the SimBuster eSIM as the internet connection for the SimBuster calling app.

For example:

  1. The travel eSIM connects to mobile data.
  2. Open SimBuster.
  3. Use your SimBuster Phone Number or dialler.
  4. The app call uses the available internet connection.
  5. Applicable SimBuster Call Credit or Calling Plan rules still apply to the call itself.

The eSIM data and the telephony service are billed separately.

Using a SimBuster eSIM does not turn ordinary SimBuster calls into free calls.

It simply provides the data connection used by the app.

Learn about Calling & SMS

Use your SimBuster eSIM as a personal hotspot

If the selected plan and your device support tethering, you can use the travel eSIM’s mobile data for a personal hotspot.

Before relying on it:

  1. Check hotspot support in the eSIM plan details.
  2. Connect the eSIM successfully on the phone first.
  3. Confirm normal mobile data works.
  4. Turn on Personal Hotspot or Mobile Hotspot.
  5. Connect one test device.
  6. Monitor data usage closely.

Hotspot use can drain:

  • data allowance;
  • phone battery; and
  • plan validity faster than expected.

For work trips, disable automatic laptop updates and large cloud synchronisation if your data package is limited.

Check your eSIM data usage

Where supported, SimBuster shows usage information for your eSIM plan so you can monitor how much data remains.

Your phone may also show mobile-data usage.

These two figures can differ slightly because they may measure usage at different points.

For your actual purchased allowance, use the current plan information shown by the eSIM service.

Check usage regularly if you are:

  • streaming video;
  • tethering a laptop;
  • uploading large files;
  • using cloud backup;
  • on a long trip; or
  • approaching the end of a small data package.
Check remaining data usage for a SimBuster travel eSIM plan

What to do when your eSIM data is running low

Do not wait until you have no data in an unfamiliar place.

When the allowance is getting low:

  • check whether the current plan supports adding more data;
  • compare the cost of adding data with purchasing another available plan;
  • turn off unnecessary cloud backup;
  • reduce video quality;
  • disable automatic app updates;
  • use trusted Wi-Fi where appropriate; and
  • download maps or travel information while you still have connectivity.

If your plan supports top-up or additional data, the option will be shown in SimBuster.

Add more data to an eSIM

Many SimBuster eSIM plans support adding more data, but availability varies.

If Add Data, Top Up or a similar option appears for your current eSIM:

  1. Open the eSIM.
  2. Check the remaining allowance.
  3. Choose the available add-data option.
  4. Review the new allowance, price and any validity conditions.
  5. Complete the purchase.
  6. Confirm the additional data appears.

If no add-data option is shown, you may need to purchase another available eSIM plan instead.

Do not assume every plan can be topped up.

Add more mobile data to a supported SimBuster travel eSIM

Extend an eSIM plan’s validity

Some SimBuster eSIM plans can support extending validity.

Where Extend Validity or an equivalent option is available:

  1. Open the active eSIM.
  2. Check the current expiry or validity information.
  3. Choose the extension option.
  4. Review the additional validity and price.
  5. Complete the purchase.
  6. Confirm the new validity period.

Support varies by plan.

If the option is not shown, do not assume the existing plan can be extended.

You may need a new plan instead.

eSIM checklist before you fly

Before leaving home:

  • confirm your phone supports eSIM;
  • confirm the phone is network unlocked;
  • buy the correct country or regional plan;
  • check the data allowance;
  • check validity;
  • check when the validity period starts;
  • install the eSIM early only if the plan permits it;
  • save or retain access to the installation information;
  • label the eSIM clearly;
  • check whether data roaming is required;
  • check hotspot support if you need it;
  • turn off mobile-data roaming on your home SIM if you want to avoid home-network data charges;
  • download offline maps;
  • update important apps over Wi-Fi;
  • make sure you know which SIM will be used for data when you land.

Do not rely on airport Wi-Fi being available to complete a complicated first-time setup.

eSIM checklist when you land

After arrival:

  1. Turn off Airplane Mode.
  2. Turn on the SimBuster eSIM.
  3. Select it for mobile data.
  4. Enable data roaming on the SimBuster eSIM if required.
  5. Make sure your home SIM is not selected for roaming data unless intended.
  6. Wait for a supported network to appear.
  7. Turn Wi-Fi off for the first data test.
  8. Open maps or a webpage.
  9. If data does not work, restart the phone or toggle Airplane Mode.
  10. Check APN or network instructions only if the plan requires them.

Once data works, you can reconnect to trusted Wi-Fi normally.

Using a regional or multi-country eSIM

A regional plan can be useful for trips through several countries.

Before buying, read the included destination list.

When crossing into another covered country:

  • leave the eSIM installed;
  • make sure it remains enabled;
  • keep data roaming enabled if required by the plan;
  • allow the phone time to register on a new partner network; and
  • check that the new country is actually included in the plan.

If the new destination is not included, buy another supported plan before depending on mobile data there.

What happens when you cross a border?

If the current plan includes both countries, the phone should normally search for a supported partner network after crossing the border.

It can take a few minutes.

If it does not reconnect:

  1. wait for network registration;
  2. toggle Airplane Mode;
  3. restart the phone;
  4. check automatic network selection;
  5. verify the new country is part of the plan; and
  6. try a supported network manually if the plan information identifies one.

If the plan covers only the previous country, the eSIM may stop providing data after you leave that coverage area.

How good is eSIM coverage?

SimBuster travel eSIMs use supported mobile networks in the destination.

Coverage and signal quality depend on the local network.

No eSIM provider can guarantee a strong signal everywhere.

Performance can vary by:

  • city;
  • rural area;
  • building;
  • underground location;
  • terrain;
  • local network congestion;
  • phone radio support;
  • network partner; and
  • time of day.

A country plan does not mean every square kilometre of the country has mobile coverage.

If the plan page names supported networks, compare their local coverage if your trip includes remote locations.

Will the eSIM get 4G, LTE or 5G?

Available network technology depends on:

  • the purchased plan;
  • local partner network;
  • device;
  • coverage;
  • network congestion;
  • local radio bands; and
  • current service conditions.

A 5G-capable phone does not guarantee a 5G connection everywhere.

If the phone connects to LTE or 4G and data is working normally, that does not necessarily mean the eSIM is faulty.

For most travel tasks, a stable connection is more important than the icon shown in the status bar.

View your eSIM details

Open the purchased eSIM in SimBuster to review the information available for that plan.

Depending on the product, this can include:

  • destination;
  • data allowance;
  • remaining data;
  • plan status;
  • validity;
  • activation information;
  • installation details;
  • supported network information;
  • top-up or add-data option; and
  • validity-extension option.

Use this screen before changing phone settings.

It can save you from troubleshooting the wrong eSIM or an already-expired plan.

Rename the eSIM on your phone

If the phone gives the installed eSIM a generic label such as Secondary, rename it.

Good labels include:

  • SimBuster
  • Travel
  • Spain Data
  • USA eSIM

This does not change the network service.

It simply makes your phone’s SIM settings easier to understand.

A clear label is one of the simplest ways to avoid accidentally turning on roaming data for the wrong SIM.

Turn an eSIM off temporarily

You can normally disable an installed eSIM without deleting it.

This is useful when:

  • you are not travelling yet;
  • you temporarily want your main SIM to handle data;
  • you are troubleshooting;
  • you are crossing into a country not included in the plan; or
  • you want to stop the phone trying to register on that eSIM.

When you need it again, return to the SIM settings and turn it back on.

Remember that turning the eSIM off does not necessarily pause the plan’s validity period.

If the validity clock has already started, it can continue even while the SIM is disabled.

What happens when an eSIM plan expires?

Once the plan validity ends, the included mobile data is no longer available under that expired allowance.

The eSIM profile may still appear on the phone.

That does not mean the plan is still active.

Open SimBuster and check:

  • status;
  • remaining data;
  • validity;
  • extension options; and
  • new plan options.

Where supported, extend validity or add an eligible package before expiry.

Otherwise, purchase another appropriate travel plan.

What happens when all eSIM data is used?

If you consume the plan’s full data allowance, mobile data through that allowance can stop even if the validity period has not ended.

Open the plan and check whether you can:

  • add more data;
  • purchase another compatible package; or
  • buy a new eSIM plan.

Also confirm the issue is really exhausted data rather than:

  • weak signal;
  • the wrong SIM selected;
  • data roaming disabled; or
  • a network registration problem.

Do you need a new eSIM every time you travel?

It depends on the current plan and available add-on options.

Sometimes you can add more data or extend an existing eSIM.

In other cases, you purchase a new plan.

Use the options shown in the SimBuster app for the specific eSIM.

Do not assume a QR code for an old or expired eSIM can be reused for a completely new trip.

Can you move a SimBuster travel eSIM to another phone?

Do not assume a travel eSIM can be freely transferred after installation.

Transfer and reinstallation rules depend on the eSIM profile, plan and device.

If you are changing phones:

  1. Do not delete the eSIM from the old phone yet.
  2. Check the current SimBuster eSIM details.
  3. Check whether transfer or reinstallation is supported.
  4. Keep the original installation information.
  5. Only remove the old profile once you know the supported migration process.

Some eSIM activation credentials are intended for a single installation.

Deleting first and asking questions later can leave you without the active profile.

Remove an eSIM after the trip

When the trip and plan are completely finished, you can remove the eSIM profile from your device if you no longer need it.

Before deleting:

  • confirm the trip is over;
  • confirm you do not need remaining data;
  • check whether the plan can be reused, topped up or extended;
  • make sure you are deleting the correct SIM; and
  • keep any order information you may need for support or records.

On dual-SIM phones, always check the label before deleting.

Removing your home SIM or main eSIM by mistake can create a much bigger problem than leaving an old travel profile installed.

eSIM will not install

Check the basics first.

  1. Confirm the exact phone model supports eSIM.
  2. Confirm the phone is network unlocked.
  3. Connect to stable Wi-Fi.
  4. Make sure the eSIM has not already been installed.
  5. Check that Add eSIM is available in phone settings.
  6. Restart the phone.
  7. Update the operating system if an update is required or available.
  8. Scan the QR code again or use the manual installation details provided.
  9. Make sure you are not using a QR code from a different plan.
  10. Do not keep deleting profiles while troubleshooting.

If the phone reports that the eSIM is already used or no longer valid, preserve the exact error message and your order details.

The eSIM QR code is not working

If the QR code will not scan:

  • increase screen brightness on the device displaying the QR code;
  • make the QR code large enough to scan clearly;
  • clean the camera lens;
  • use another screen or printout if needed;
  • make sure the entire code is visible;
  • check that the phone is connected to Wi-Fi;
  • use the phone’s dedicated Add eSIM QR scanner instead of an unrelated QR app;
  • try the manual installation details if SimBuster provides them; and
  • check whether the QR code has already been used.

If the QR code is displayed on the same phone, use a supported on-device Add eSIM option where available or display it on another device.

eSIM is installed but mobile data does not work

This is one of the most common eSIM problems.

Check in this order:

  1. The eSIM is turned on.
  2. The plan is active and still valid.
  3. Data remains on the plan.
  4. SimBuster eSIM is selected for Mobile Data.
  5. Data Roaming is enabled on the travel eSIM if required.
  6. You are physically inside the plan’s supported country or region.
  7. The phone has registered on a supported network.
  8. Automatic network selection is enabled.
  9. The APN is correct if the plan supplies one.
  10. Airplane Mode is off.
  11. Restart the phone.
  12. Turn Wi-Fi off and test mobile data directly.

Do not delete the eSIM as the first troubleshooting step.

Troubleshooting a SimBuster eSIM that is installed but has no mobile data

eSIM shows No Service or no network

If the travel eSIM shows No Service:

  1. Confirm you are in a covered destination.
  2. Check the eSIM is enabled.
  3. Enable data roaming if required.
  4. Wait several minutes for first registration.
  5. Toggle Airplane Mode.
  6. Restart the phone.
  7. Leave network selection on automatic.
  8. If the plan identifies supported networks, try one manually.
  9. Move outdoors or to another area in case the local signal is poor.
  10. Check the eSIM plan has not expired.

If another phone on the same local network also has no signal, the issue can be local coverage rather than the eSIM itself.

eSIM data is slow

Slow data can come from the network rather than the eSIM configuration.

Check:

  • signal strength;
  • whether the phone is on 3G, 4G/LTE or 5G;
  • whether the local network is congested;
  • whether you are indoors, underground or in a remote area;
  • background downloads;
  • VPN usage;
  • hotspot devices consuming data;
  • whether the phone is connected to the intended travel eSIM; and
  • whether another supported network performs better.

Restarting the data connection or moving location can help.

Do not judge the entire plan from one speed test in a crowded airport or stadium.

Your phone is using the wrong SIM for data

On dual-SIM phones, check Mobile Data or Cellular Data selection.

Choose the SimBuster travel eSIM.

Also review any setting that allows automatic switching between SIMs.

If the main SIM is selected instead:

  • the SimBuster eSIM can appear active but use no data;
  • your home carrier can provide the data connection instead; and
  • roaming charges can occur.

After changing the data SIM, turn Wi-Fi off and open a webpage to confirm the correct mobile connection works.

Data roaming is off

A travel eSIM can need Data Roaming turned on because it uses partner networks outside the eSIM’s home network identity.

If the eSIM is installed, active and selected for data but nothing loads:

  1. Open the settings for the SimBuster eSIM.
  2. Find Data Roaming.
  3. Enable it if the plan instructions require roaming.
  4. Wait for network registration.
  5. Test again.

Be careful to enable roaming on the travel eSIM, not accidentally on your home SIM.

The APN is missing or incorrect

If your purchased plan provides an APN and mobile data will not connect:

  1. Open the mobile-network settings for the SimBuster eSIM.
  2. Open APN or Access Point Names.
  3. Compare the current value with the plan information.
  4. Correct it exactly if necessary.
  5. Save the APN.
  6. Select it where required.
  7. Toggle mobile data or restart the phone.
  8. Test again.

Do not use APN settings from another country, another SimBuster plan or another eSIM provider unless they are explicitly supplied for your eSIM.

Personal hotspot is not working

First confirm normal mobile data works on the phone itself.

Then check:

  • the selected eSIM plan supports hotspot or tethering;
  • the phone supports hotspot on that SIM;
  • the SimBuster eSIM is selected for mobile data;
  • the APN is correct;
  • the connected device is using the correct Wi-Fi password; and
  • the plan still has data available.

Some plans or networks can restrict tethering even when normal handset data works.

If hotspot support is essential, check it before purchasing the plan.

The eSIM plan has not activated

Check the plan’s activation condition.

Some plans may not become active until the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the destination.

If you are still at home:

  • installation may be complete;
  • the eSIM can appear in phone settings;
  • but the travel package may not yet have connected to its destination network.

If you are already in the destination:

  1. enable the eSIM;
  2. select it for data;
  3. enable roaming if required;
  4. wait for a supported network;
  5. restart or toggle Airplane Mode; and
  6. check the plan status again.

The eSIM stopped working before the validity date

Check the remaining data allowance.

A plan can stop providing data because the allowance has been fully consumed even though the calendar validity has not ended.

Heavy data usage can come from:

  • video streaming;
  • cloud photo backup;
  • hotspot use;
  • software updates;
  • large downloads;
  • video calling; and
  • background app activity.

If the data is exhausted, use an available add-data option or purchase another suitable plan.

If data remains, continue with the installed but no data troubleshooting steps.

You accidentally deleted the eSIM

Do not repeatedly scan the old QR code.

An eSIM activation credential may be single-use.

Instead:

  1. Open the purchased eSIM in SimBuster.
  2. Check whether installation details or a supported reinstallation option remain available.
  3. Keep the order and plan information.
  4. Try reinstallation only where the plan permits it.
  5. If the activation is reported as already used, use the appropriate SimBuster support route with the eSIM order details.

This is why we recommend turning an eSIM off rather than deleting it during ordinary troubleshooting.

Payment completed but the eSIM is not showing

If you paid but cannot see the purchased eSIM:

  1. Do not immediately buy the same plan again.
  2. Refresh or reopen the eSIM area.
  3. Check your purchased eSIM list.
  4. Confirm the payment status.
  5. Check that the transaction completed rather than remaining pending or failing authentication.
  6. Restart the app if necessary.
  7. Keep the payment reference and order information.
  8. If the purchase is confirmed but no eSIM appears, contact SimBuster support with those details.

A payment authorisation screen does not always mean a purchase completed successfully.

Check the final transaction state before retrying.

eSIM FAQ

What is a SimBuster eSIM?

A SimBuster eSIM is a digital SIM for mobile data in supported travel destinations. It installs on a compatible device without replacing your physical SIM.

Is it a travel eSIM?

Yes. WhatsApp can use the eSIM’s mobile-data connection. Installing a data eSIM does not automatically change your WhatsApp account number.

Can I receive SMS on my normal SIM while using eSIM data?

On supported dual-SIM devices, your normal SIM can remain active while SimBuster eSIM handles mobile data. Your home carrier’s roaming conditions and charges still apply.

Which countries are supported?

Open the SimBuster eSIM country search to see currently available countries, regions and plans.

How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?

Look for Add eSIM, Add Mobile Plan or a similar option in the phone’s mobile-network settings and confirm compatibility for your exact model.

Does my phone need to be unlocked?

Yes, an unlocked device is normally required to use an eSIM from another service provider.

Can a carrier-locked phone use SimBuster eSIM?

A carrier lock can prevent use of another provider’s eSIM. Check with the carrier that supplied the phone.

How do I buy a SimBuster eSIM?

Open eSIM, choose the destination, select a plan, review the data and validity, complete purchase and follow the installation instructions.

How is the eSIM delivered?

Installation information is provided digitally after purchase. Most plans use a QR code or manual eSIM installation details.

Do I need Wi-Fi to install an eSIM?

A reliable internet connection is recommended for downloading and installing the eSIM profile.

Can I install it before I travel?

Usually yes, but first check when your specific plan’s validity begins. Some plans can start validity at installation or activation, while others begin on first supported network connection.

When should I install it?

Install before travel when the plan’s activation rules make that safe. Otherwise follow the timing shown for the purchased plan.

How do I install eSIM on iPhone?

Go to the iPhone mobile/cellular settings, choose Add eSIM, scan the QR code or use the available installation method, then follow the prompts.

How do I install it on Samsung?

On supported Galaxy phones, use Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM, then scan the supplied QR code or use the manual option where available.

How do I install it on Pixel?

On supported Pixel phones, use Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Set up an eSIM, then follow the instructions.

What if the QR code is on the same phone?

Use a supported on-device QR/eSIM installation option where available, or display the QR code on another device so the phone can scan it.

Can I install it manually?

Yes, when the purchased plan provides manual installation details such as an SM-DP+ address and activation code.

Can I scan the QR code more than once?

Do not assume so. Some eSIM QR codes or activation credentials are intended for one installation.

Should I delete the eSIM if it is not working?

No. Deleting an eSIM can make reinstallation difficult. Troubleshoot the settings first.

Can I rename the eSIM?

Yes. Giving it a label such as SimBuster Travel makes dual-SIM management easier.

What settings do I need when I arrive?

Normally turn on the eSIM, select it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming on the travel eSIM if required by the plan.

Why does data roaming need to be on?

Travel eSIMs can use partner networks. Data Roaming can therefore be required for the travel eSIM to connect.

Should roaming be on for my main SIM?

Only if you intentionally want your home carrier to provide roaming service. Turn off home-SIM data roaming if you want to avoid accidental home-network roaming data.

How do I stop my main SIM using data?

Choose SimBuster eSIM as the phone’s mobile-data SIM and review automatic data-switching settings.

What is an APN?

An Access Point Name is a network setting used to establish mobile-data service. Only enter an APN if the purchased eSIM instructions provide one.

Can I use the eSIM as a hotspot?

Many plans and devices support hotspot or tethering, but availability varies. Check the plan details.

Can I tether my laptop?

Yes where hotspot is supported. Monitor data carefully because laptops can consume large amounts.

Can I use 5G?

Network type depends on the plan, device, local network and coverage. 5G is not guaranteed everywhere.

Can I use the eSIM in rural areas?

Only where a supported local mobile network has coverage. Country availability does not guarantee signal everywhere.

What happens when I cross into another country?

If the plan includes the new country, the phone can register on a supported partner network. If the country is not included, you need another suitable plan.

What is a regional eSIM?

A regional plan covers multiple listed countries. Always check the exact country list before buying.

How much data do I need?

It depends on usage. Maps and messages are relatively light; video, tethering, cloud backup and large downloads use far more.

How do I check remaining data?

Open the purchased eSIM in SimBuster and review available usage information.

Can I add more data?

Many plans support adding data, but not all do. Use the option shown for the active eSIM where available.

Can I extend the plan?

Some plans support extending validity. If the option is available, it will be shown for the eSIM.

What happens when my data runs out?

Mobile data can stop even if the plan’s calendar validity has not ended. Add more data or purchase another supported plan.

What happens when the plan expires?

The included data service ends. Check whether you can extend the plan, add another package or purchase a new eSIM.

Can I turn the eSIM off without deleting it?

Yes. On supported phones you can disable the eSIM temporarily and turn it back on later.

Does turning it off pause the validity?

Not necessarily. If the validity period has already started, it can continue while the eSIM is turned off.

Can I transfer an eSIM to a new phone?

Transfer and reinstallation depend on the plan and device. Check before deleting it from the original phone.

What if I accidentally delete the eSIM?

Open the purchased plan and check whether reinstallation is supported. Do not assume the original QR code can be reused.

Why does the eSIM say No Service?

Check destination coverage, plan status, roaming, network selection and whether the eSIM is enabled. Restart or toggle Airplane Mode if needed.

Why is the eSIM installed but there is no internet?

The most common causes are the wrong SIM selected for data, roaming disabled, no supported network, wrong APN, expired validity or exhausted data.

Why is the data slow?

Local signal, congestion, device radio support and coverage can all affect speed.

Does eSIM data include SimBuster Call Credit?

No. eSIM data and SimBuster telephony balances are separate.

Does eSIM data include SMS Credit?

No. SMS Credit is a separate SimBuster balance used for supported outgoing SMS.

Does an eSIM affect AI Assistant or Receptionist?

Not directly. The eSIM provides data to your device. AI Assistant and Receptionist are separate SimBuster telephony services.

What should I do before a trip?

Check device compatibility, unlock status, plan coverage, data, validity and activation timing; install safely; label the eSIM; and understand which SIM will handle mobile data.
