Voicemail

SimBuster voicemail is built around voicemail to email: callers leave a voice message and the recording is delivered to you by email instead of sitting in a separate voicemail inbox.

This guide also explains SimBuster missed call emails, which are different from voicemail, and what happens when you forward calls to a mobile or landline that has its own network voicemail.

What is SimBuster Voicemail?

SimBuster Voicemail lets a caller leave a recorded voice message and delivers that message to you by email.

The important point is that SimBuster uses a voicemail-to-email model. You do not need to remember a voicemail access number, dial into a mailbox or keep checking a separate voicemail inbox inside the app.

A typical flow is:

  1. Someone calls your SimBuster phone number.
  2. Your call routing or Receptionist sends that caller to voicemail.
  3. The caller hears the voicemail greeting or prompt used by your call flow.
  4. The caller records a message.
  5. SimBuster sends the voicemail to the email destination used for that voicemail setup.
  6. You listen to the message from your email and decide whether to call the person back.

This is useful for business numbers, after-hours calls, departments, support lines and any situation where you want a voice message delivered somewhere you already check.

SimBuster voicemail to email feature for receiving voice messages by email

How voicemail to email works

Voicemail to email means the caller records a normal voice message, but the message is delivered through email rather than being stored only behind a traditional telephone voicemail menu.

That gives you a simpler workflow:

  • no separate voicemail number to dial;
  • no keypad menu to navigate just to hear a message;
  • no need to be connected to the SimBuster app at the moment the message is left;
  • the voicemail can be reviewed from any device where you can access the receiving email account; and
  • the email creates a useful record that can be searched, forwarded internally or filed according to your own business process.

The voicemail email is separate from an ordinary missed call email. A voicemail means the caller actually reached a voicemail route and left a recorded message. A missed call email can be sent even when the caller did not leave any voice message.

Voicemail email vs missed call email

These are two different SimBuster features.

Voicemail email

A caller reaches a configured voicemail route and records a voice message.

You receive the voicemail by email.

Missed call email

SimBuster alerts you by email that a call was missed because the app or phone could not be reached in the expected way, including situations where the device has no usable data connection or is out of data coverage.

A missed call email is an alert, not a recorded voicemail.

The caller may have hung up without leaving any message.

Simple way to remember it

Voicemail email = the caller left you something to listen to.

Missed call email = SimBuster is telling you that somebody tried to call.

Both are useful, but they solve different problems.

SimBuster voicemail vs your mobile phone’s voicemail

SimBuster voicemail-to-email is also different from the voicemail service provided by your mobile carrier or landline provider.

If a SimBuster call is forwarded to a normal PSTN mobile or landline number, the destination telephone service takes over that part of the call.

For example:

  1. A caller rings your SimBuster number.
  2. SimBuster forwards the call to your UK mobile number.
  3. You do not answer the mobile.
  4. Your mobile network’s own voicemail answers.
  5. The caller leaves the message with your mobile network, not with SimBuster voicemail-to-email.

In that situation, you retrieve the voicemail according to the rules of the destination mobile or landline provider.

This can be useful if you already rely on the voicemail service on your normal phone.

Choose what should happen when you cannot answer

Before configuring voicemail, decide what experience you actually want the caller to have.

What you wantBest route

A structured Press 1 / Press 2 menu before voicemailReceptionist, then voicemail

These options are not interchangeable.

The route you choose determines who handles the call and where any message ends up.

Where is SimBuster voicemail used?

SimBuster voicemail is used as a call-flow destination, particularly where you want the caller to leave a message rather than continue to another live destination.

A common setup is through Receptionist.

Examples include:

  • Press 1 for Sales → Sales route
  • Press 2 for Support → Support route
  • Press 3 to leave a message → Voicemail

You can also use voicemail as part of:

  • an after-hours call flow;
  • a department-specific route;
  • a fallback path when nobody is available;
  • a simple information line;
  • a temporary out-of-office setup; or
  • a business continuity call flow.

The exact voicemail blocks and options available are shown inside the current Receptionist builder.

Add voicemail as a destination in a SimBuster Receptionist IVR call flow

Learn about Receptionist

Add voicemail to a Receptionist call flow

To let callers leave a SimBuster voicemail, add voicemail at the point in the Receptionist flow where you want recording to begin.

A typical setup is:

  1. Open Receptionist in the SimBuster app.
  2. Open the Receptionist used by the relevant phone number.
  3. Find the menu option, after-hours branch or other point where callers should be able to leave a message.
  4. Add or connect the Voicemail destination.
  5. Check the voicemail delivery details shown in the setup.
  6. Make sure the caller hears an appropriate prompt before recording.
  7. Save or publish the Receptionist.
  8. Call the number from another phone.
  9. Follow the exact menu path to voicemail.
  10. Leave a real test message.
  11. Confirm the voicemail arrives by email and can be played.

If the live phone number is not assigned to the Receptionist, changing the Receptionist will not affect that number.

Give callers a clear voicemail greeting

A caller should know that they have reached voicemail and what information you want them to leave.

Keep the greeting short.

Simple personal or business greeting

”Sorry we can’t answer your call. Please leave your name, number and a short message after the tone.”

Sales enquiry

”Please leave your name, company, callback number and a short description of what you need. We will return your call as soon as we can.”

After-hours message

”Our office is currently closed. Please leave your name, telephone number and message after the tone.”

Department voicemail

”You’ve reached Accounts. Please leave your name, company, invoice or account reference if applicable, and a callback number.”

Do not make the caller listen to a long marketing message before they can leave the voicemail.

Where the greeting is created as part of Receptionist, the normal Receptionist greeting and Speech Credit rules apply.

Create a clear voicemail greeting for a SimBuster Receptionist call flow

Check where voicemail will be delivered

Before going live, check the email destination shown or used by your voicemail setup.

That email account needs to be:

  • valid;
  • accessible to the right person or team;
  • checked regularly;
  • able to receive SimBuster messages; and
  • protected appropriately if callers may leave private information.

For a business line, think carefully about who should receive the voicemail.

For example:

  • Sales voicemail → sales inbox
  • Accounts voicemail → accounts team
  • Main business voicemail → shared monitored inbox
  • Personal SimBuster number → your normal email account

Use the delivery details available in the current SimBuster setup.

Do not route confidential customer messages to a shared mailbox that unrelated people can access.

Check the email destination used for SimBuster voicemail to email delivery

Test voicemail before relying on it

Do not stop testing when you hear the voicemail greeting.

Test the complete journey.

  1. Call the SimBuster number from a different phone.
  2. Follow the same route a real caller will use.
  3. Listen to the full greeting.
  4. Leave your name and a short test message.
  5. End the call normally.
  6. Check the receiving email account.
  7. Open the voicemail email.
  8. Confirm the message can be played or accessed correctly.
  9. Check that the information in the email is enough to identify the call.
  10. Return the call using the details available.
  11. Repeat the test outside business hours if voicemail is only used after hours.
  12. Test every separate department route that has its own voicemail path.

Also test after changing your Receptionist, phone number assignment, greeting or email delivery setup.

What does the caller experience?

The caller experience depends on the call flow you build.

A simple voicemail journey might be:

  1. Caller dials your SimBuster number.
  2. Receptionist answers.
  3. Caller chooses an option or reaches an after-hours branch.
  4. Caller hears a voicemail prompt.
  5. Caller records a message.
  6. Caller hangs up.
  7. The message is delivered to you by email.

The best experience is predictable.

The caller should understand:

  • that they have reached voicemail;
  • what information you want;
  • when to start speaking; and
  • what will happen next.

Do not tell callers that somebody will call back within a specific time unless you genuinely operate that service level.

Receive a voicemail by email

When a caller successfully leaves a SimBuster voicemail, the voicemail is delivered to the relevant email destination.

Open the email to review the message.

Depending on the email presentation used by the current service, the email gives you the voicemail recording or the means to access the recorded message along with the available call information.

For the fastest response:

  • allow SimBuster emails through your spam filtering;
  • use an inbox you actually monitor;
  • create a mail rule or folder for SimBuster voicemail if you receive many calls; and
  • make sure business-critical voicemail is not going to an old or unmonitored address.
Example of a SimBuster voicemail to email message with a caller recording

Listen to the voicemail recording

Open the voicemail email and use the recording or playback option provided.

For an important business message, listen for:

  • caller’s name;
  • telephone number;
  • company;
  • reason for calling;
  • order, account or reference number;
  • requested department;
  • urgency; and
  • any requested callback time.

If the caller speaks quickly or the audio is unclear, replay the message before returning the call.

Do not guess an unclear telephone number.

If you cannot identify the caller reliably, use the other caller information available in the email or call records where present.

Use the email and call records to identify the caller

A good voicemail message contains enough information for you to understand why the person called.

The voicemail email and SimBuster call records can help you connect the voice message with the incoming call.

When available, compare:

  • caller number;
  • call time;
  • SimBuster number called;
  • voicemail recording;
  • the department or route used; and
  • any details the caller said in the message.

This is particularly useful when one account manages several SimBuster numbers.

If you operate different numbers for different countries, businesses or departments, keep the voicemail routes and receiving inboxes organised so the recipient knows which line the caller reached.

Return a voicemail call

After listening to a voicemail, you can return the call using the appropriate SimBuster calling route.

Before calling back:

  1. Check the caller’s number.
  2. Check the country code.
  3. Make sure you understand the reason for the call.
  4. Check your Call Credit or Calling Plan if the callback will be made through SimBuster.
  5. Use the SimBuster dialler if you want to place the callback through SimBuster.
  6. If you manage several SimBuster numbers, check the caller ID or outbound setup you intend to use.

A voicemail-to-email message does not itself place the callback.

Learn about making calls

Organise voicemail emails for a busy number

For a busy business line, treat voicemail email like a small support queue.

Useful email practices include:

  • create a folder called SimBuster Voicemail;
  • add a rule for SimBuster voicemail emails;
  • flag messages that still need a callback;
  • archive completed messages;
  • forward a message internally only where appropriate;
  • avoid sending sensitive voicemail recordings to people who do not need them; and
  • use a shared team inbox only if the right people have controlled access.

The email workflow is outside the SimBuster app, so you can organise it using the tools provided by your own email service.

What is a SimBuster missed call email?

A missed call email tells you that somebody attempted to call your SimBuster number but the call was not answered through the expected app route.

This is particularly useful when your phone cannot receive the SimBuster app call because it is not reachable over data.

The email acts as a safety net.

You can see that somebody tried to reach you even though you did not receive the normal incoming call alert.

A missed call email does not mean the caller left a voicemail.

SimBuster missed call email alert when an incoming app call cannot be answered

When can SimBuster send a missed call email?

Missed call email is designed for situations where an incoming call to the app is missed because the expected destination cannot be reached.

Examples include when:

  • the phone has no usable mobile data;
  • the phone is outside data coverage;
  • Wi-Fi is unavailable and mobile data cannot carry the call;
  • the app cannot be reached for the incoming call; or
  • another connectivity condition prevents the normal app call from being answered.

The exact call result still depends on the route configured for the number.

For example, a number routed directly to PSTN follows the PSTN destination rather than relying only on the SimBuster app.

What happens if you have no data coverage?

SimBuster app-based calling needs a usable internet connection.

If your phone is out of mobile data coverage and has no usable Wi-Fi, the app may not be reachable for an incoming app-routed call.

When the relevant missed-call notification conditions are met, SimBuster can send a missed call email so you still know somebody tried to contact you.

Once you regain internet access:

  1. check your email for missed call alerts;
  2. check SimBuster call history;
  3. identify the caller;
  4. return important calls; and
  5. consider another call route if you regularly work in areas with poor data coverage.

For example, a business that frequently operates in weak-data areas may prefer to use PSTN forwarding, Receptionist, AI Assistant or another supported call flow instead of relying only on the app ringing.

Why did I get a missed call email but no voicemail?

Because a missed call and a voicemail are different events.

A caller can ring your number and hang up without ever reaching a voicemail route.

In that case:

  • SimBuster may tell you the call was missed;
  • there is no recorded message to send; and
  • you may need to decide whether to call the number back.

If you want missed callers to have the opportunity to leave a voice message, configure a voicemail path in Receptionist or another supported call flow rather than assuming every missed app call automatically becomes voicemail.

What should you do after a missed call email?

First check the caller information available in the email and SimBuster call history.

Then decide whether to:

  • return the call;
  • wait for the caller to try again;
  • check whether they also left a voicemail through another route;
  • change your incoming call setup if calls are repeatedly being missed; or
  • investigate your phone’s data connection and notification settings.

If you receive repeated missed call emails while your phone appears to have good internet access, check the Troubleshooting section rather than assuming the caller is hanging up immediately.

Use your normal mobile or landline voicemail by routing calls to PSTN

You do not have to use SimBuster voicemail-to-email.

If you route a SimBuster number to an external PSTN mobile or landline, your normal destination phone can handle unanswered calls according to its own settings.

A typical setup is:

  1. Open the SimBuster phone number.
  2. Open Where calls go.
  3. Choose the supported PSTN or external phone destination.
  4. Enter or select the destination number.
  5. Save the route.
  6. Call the SimBuster number from another phone.
  7. Let the destination phone ring without answering.
  8. Check whether the destination mobile or landline provider’s voicemail answers.

If it does, that voicemail belongs to the destination network or phone service.

It is not SimBuster voicemail-to-email.

Route a SimBuster phone number to an external PSTN mobile or landline

Learn about Phone Numbers and Where calls go

Using your mobile network’s voicemail

If a call forwarded by SimBuster reaches your normal mobile number and you do not answer, your mobile carrier’s voicemail can answer in the same way it does for an ordinary call to that mobile.

Whether it answers, how long the phone rings and how you retrieve the message are controlled by that destination service.

Examples include:

  • EE voicemail;
  • Vodafone voicemail;
  • O2 voicemail;
  • Three voicemail; or
  • another mobile or fixed-line provider’s answering service.

SimBuster does not control the greeting, mailbox PIN, storage or retrieval rules of a third-party PSTN voicemail service.

If you want the message delivered by SimBuster email, use SimBuster voicemail-to-email instead of relying on the destination carrier’s voicemail.

Why PSTN voicemail can behave differently from SimBuster voicemail

When a SimBuster call is forwarded to PSTN, two separate telecom services are involved:

SimBuster handles the incoming call and forwarding.

The destination network handles the external phone and any voicemail attached to it.

That means the result can depend on:

  • whether the destination number is reachable;
  • how long the destination network rings;
  • whether carrier voicemail is enabled;
  • whether unconditional or conditional forwarding exists on that destination;
  • roaming behaviour;
  • whether the phone is switched off;
  • whether the destination network treats the forwarded call differently; and
  • the voicemail settings of the destination provider.

If the destination carrier’s voicemail does not answer, check that phone/network’s voicemail settings.

Changing SimBuster’s voicemail-to-email setup will not fix a disabled voicemail mailbox on an unrelated mobile network.

Does PSTN voicemail use Call Credit?

When SimBuster forwards an incoming call to an external mobile or landline, the onward PSTN call leg can use Call Credit or the applicable calling allowance.

If the destination voicemail answers, the forwarded call is still connected to that external destination while the caller leaves the message.

This can therefore continue to use the relevant external forwarding minutes or charges while the voicemail call remains connected.

Check the current rate and your available Call Credit before using external forwarding as the main route for a high-volume number.

SimBuster voicemail-to-email does not require you to forward the call to your own mobile network just to capture the message.

View current rates and plans

Use voicemail for after-hours calls

Voicemail-to-email is a simple after-hours destination.

A business flow might be:

  1. Customer calls the main SimBuster number.
  2. Receptionist checks the business-hours route.
  3. During opening hours, the call rings the team.
  4. Outside opening hours, the caller hears a short closed message.
  5. The caller is sent to voicemail.
  6. The voicemail is delivered by email.
  7. The team reviews it when the business reopens.

A useful after-hours greeting should tell the caller:

  • that the business is closed;
  • what information to leave; and
  • when they can reasonably expect normal service to resume.

Do not promise emergency monitoring unless somebody really monitors the voicemail inbox outside normal hours.

Use SimBuster voicemail to email as an after hours Receptionist call route

Create voicemail routes for different departments

Receptionist lets you place voicemail where it makes sense in the call flow.

For example:

  • Press 1 for Sales → Sales team
  • Press 2 for Support → Support team
  • Press 3 for Accounts → Accounts voicemail
  • Press 4 to leave a general message → Main voicemail

This is useful when some departments answer live while others prefer message taking.

For each department:

  • use a specific greeting;
  • ask only for the information that department needs;
  • use the appropriate email destination shown or configured for the voicemail route;
  • test the route separately; and
  • make sure the recipient can tell which department or number the voicemail relates to.

Use voicemail as a fallback route

A fallback voicemail can prevent callers from reaching a dead end.

For example, after a menu or business-hours decision, a call flow can eventually give the caller an opportunity to leave a message if the intended live destination is not suitable or available.

The exact fallback logic depends on the blocks and routes supported by the current Receptionist configuration.

When designing a fallback:

  • tell the caller why they are being asked to leave a message;
  • keep the prompt short;
  • collect a useful callback number;
  • make sure the receiving email is monitored; and
  • test the failure or fallback path deliberately.

A fallback that nobody has tested is not a real fallback.

Use voicemail and missed call emails as a business continuity safety net

Internet-based calling is convenient, but phones lose connectivity.

SimBuster gives you several ways to reduce the chance that an important caller disappears without any trace:

  • Voicemail to email can capture a recorded message.
  • Missed call email can tell you somebody tried to reach the app when it could not be reached over data.
  • PSTN forwarding can send the call to another mobile or landline.
  • Receptionist can route different callers differently.
  • AI Assistant can handle supported calls automatically.

You do not need to use every option.

Choose a call flow based on how important the number is and what should happen if you personally cannot answer.

For a business-critical line, test the setup with:

  • the app online;
  • the app/device without usable data;
  • the destination phone unanswered if PSTN forwarding is used; and
  • the business-hours and after-hours paths.

Protect the email account that receives voicemail

A voicemail recording can contain personal information.

Protect the receiving inbox in the same way you would protect other business communication.

Use:

  • a strong unique password;
  • multi-factor authentication where your email provider supports it;
  • access only for people who need the messages;
  • secure company email for business voicemail where appropriate; and
  • sensible retention and deletion rules.

Do not use a publicly shared or abandoned inbox for customer voicemail.

If somebody leaves payment-card details, passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information in a voicemail, handle that recording according to your organisation’s privacy and security procedures.

Think about what callers may say in a voicemail

A caller can say almost anything once recording begins.

Your greeting can reduce unnecessary sensitive information by telling callers what you actually need.

For example:

“Please leave your name, telephone number and a short description of your enquiry. Do not leave passwords or payment-card details.”

For a support number:

“Please leave your name, callback number and ticket reference if you have one. Do not include passwords or security codes.”

For regulated or sensitive businesses, decide whether voicemail is appropriate for the type of information callers may disclose and follow the legal or professional requirements that apply to you.

Keep the receiving email address current

Voicemail-to-email is only useful if the message reaches an inbox somebody can access.

Review voicemail delivery when:

  • an employee leaves;
  • a department email changes;
  • you change business domain;
  • you stop using an old personal email account;
  • responsibility for a number moves to another person;
  • you create a new Receptionist; or
  • you copy or rebuild a call flow.

After changing any delivery information, leave a new test voicemail and confirm it reaches the intended inbox.

Do not assume an old voicemail setup automatically follows an organisational email change.

Retest voicemail after changing your call routing

Voicemail can stop being reached even though the voicemail itself is still configured correctly.

For example, you might:

  • change Where calls go from Receptionist to the app;
  • remove a number from a Receptionist;
  • change a Press 3 menu route;
  • alter business hours;
  • route the number to PSTN;
  • move callers to AI Assistant; or
  • publish a new Receptionist flow.

After an important routing change, make an outside test call.

Check not only that the number rings, but that the caller can still reach voicemail through every path where you expect it to exist.

Voicemail email has not arrived

First make sure a voicemail was actually recorded.

Then check in this order:

  1. Call the number again from another phone.
  2. Follow the exact voicemail route.
  3. Leave a clear test message.
  4. End the call normally.
  5. Wait briefly for the voicemail to process and send.
  6. Refresh the receiving inbox.
  7. Search for SimBuster messages.
  8. Check Spam, Junk, Promotions and quarantine folders.
  9. Check the email destination used by the voicemail setup.
  10. Make sure the mailbox is not disabled, over quota or rejecting incoming mail.
  11. Confirm the Receptionist and voicemail configuration was saved or published.
  12. If you recently changed the email or call flow, test again after the change.

Also confirm you are looking for a voicemail email, not a missed call email. They are separate notifications.

Voicemail emails are going to Spam or Junk

If SimBuster voicemail emails are being filtered:

  • mark a genuine SimBuster voicemail email as Not Spam;
  • add the sender used by genuine SimBuster service emails to your allowed contacts or safe-sender list where your email provider supports it;
  • check company mail-security quarantine;
  • ask your email administrator to allow legitimate SimBuster service messages if a corporate filter is blocking them; and
  • avoid creating broad unsafe mail rules that bypass all security checks for unrelated messages.

After changing the mail rule, leave another test voicemail.

Do not assume the voicemail feature has failed just because the receiving email service filtered the message.

Caller reaches the number but cannot leave a voicemail

Check the call route first.

  1. Confirm the number is active.
  2. Confirm required KYC or number verification has been completed.
  3. Confirm the number has not expired.
  4. Check Where calls go.
  5. If voicemail is inside Receptionist, confirm the number is assigned to that Receptionist.
  6. Open the call flow and check the caller can actually reach the voicemail block.
  7. Check the menu prompt matches the keypad route.
  8. Check business-hours conditions if voicemail is only available at certain times.
  9. Save or publish the flow.
  10. Test from another telephone.

If the call is being routed directly to the app, PSTN or AI Assistant before it ever reaches the Receptionist voicemail path, changing the voicemail greeting will not solve the problem.

Voicemail email arrives but the recording is missing or unusable

If the email arrives but you cannot use the voice message:

  1. Check whether the caller actually spoke after the voicemail prompt.
  2. Try the playback or recording access provided in the email.
  3. Test from another phone and leave a longer message.
  4. Check whether your email security system has removed or blocked the recording content.
  5. Try the message on another device or mail client.
  6. Confirm the test call completed normally rather than disconnecting immediately.
  7. Keep the test voicemail and relevant call time available if you need to report the issue.

A silent voicemail can simply mean the caller reached recording and hung up without speaking.

Voicemail is going to the wrong email account

Check the delivery details used by the relevant voicemail route.

If you manage more than one:

  • Receptionist;
  • department;
  • phone number; or
  • email inbox,

make sure you are editing the voicemail path used by the actual live number.

Then:

  1. correct the email delivery information where the app allows it;
  2. save or publish the call flow;
  3. leave a fresh voicemail; and
  4. confirm the new message reaches the intended inbox.

Do not rely only on an old email already in your inbox to decide which address the current live configuration is using.

You expected a missed call email but did not receive one

A missed call email is generated for the relevant missed-call conditions; it is not a copy of every incoming call.

Check:

  1. The call was routed to the SimBuster app in the scenario you are testing.
  2. The app/device was genuinely unreachable over the expected data connection.
  3. The number itself was active.
  4. The incoming call did not actually route somewhere else such as Receptionist, AI Assistant or PSTN.
  5. Your email inbox and spam folders.
  6. The email account associated with the relevant notification setup.
  7. SimBuster call history to confirm the call reached the service.

If the number is intentionally forwarded to PSTN and the external phone answers or its network voicemail answers, that is a different call path from an unreachable SimBuster app.

Your mobile or landline voicemail does not answer a forwarded call

If the SimBuster number successfully forwards to your external phone but that phone’s voicemail never answers, the problem may be with the destination network’s voicemail configuration.

Check:

  • voicemail is enabled on the mobile or landline;
  • the destination number is correct;
  • ordinary direct calls to that destination can reach its voicemail;
  • the destination network is not using unusual forwarding settings;
  • the destination is not roaming in a way that changes voicemail behaviour;
  • the SimBuster forwarded call is staying connected long enough for the destination voicemail to answer; and
  • sufficient Call Credit or the required calling allowance is available for the forwarding leg.

Test the destination directly, without SimBuster.

If direct calls also fail to reach its voicemail, contact the provider of that mobile or landline service.

Calls are going to voicemail when they should ring somewhere else

Work backwards from the number.

  1. Open Phone Numbers.
  2. Select the affected number.
  3. Check Where calls go.
  4. If it routes to Receptionist, open that Receptionist.
  5. Check the live menu and business-hours paths.
  6. Find any branch that points to voicemail.
  7. Replace it with the destination you actually want.
  8. Save or publish the changes.
  9. Test the number from another phone.

If the call is forwarded to PSTN and the destination mobile network’s voicemail is answering too quickly, change the voicemail or ring-time settings with that external phone provider.

That is not controlled by the SimBuster voicemail-to-email setting.

Voicemail FAQ

What is SimBuster voicemail?

SimBuster voicemail lets a caller record a voice message and delivers that voicemail by email.

Is SimBuster voicemail voicemail-to-email?

Yes. The SimBuster voicemail feature is based on voicemail-to-email rather than requiring you to call a separate voicemail mailbox.

Do I have to dial a voicemail number to listen to messages?

No. SimBuster voicemail messages are delivered to you by email.

Is there a separate SimBuster voicemail inbox I have to check?

The purpose of the SimBuster voicemail feature is voicemail-to-email. Review the voicemail through the receiving email rather than relying on a traditional dial-in mailbox.

Can I use voicemail with Receptionist?

Yes. Voicemail can be used as a destination inside a supported Receptionist call flow.

Can I make “Press 3 to leave a message”?

Yes. A Receptionist keypad option can be connected to voicemail where that destination is available in the flow.

Can I use voicemail after business hours?

Yes. Voicemail is useful as an after-hours destination in a Receptionist call flow.

Can different departments have different voicemail paths?

Yes. You can build different voicemail routes in Receptionist where supported by the flow.

Can I change the voicemail greeting?

Where the greeting is part of the Receptionist flow, edit the relevant prompt using the supported Receptionist voice or audio options.

Does a generated voicemail greeting use Speech Credit?

If you generate a supported spoken prompt using SimBuster text-to-speech, the normal Speech Credit rules for generated Receptionist audio apply.

Is a missed call email the same as voicemail?

No. A missed call email tells you somebody tried to call. A voicemail email contains a message the caller actually recorded.

Why would SimBuster send me a missed call email?

It can alert you when an incoming app-routed call is missed because the app or phone could not be reached as expected, including when you have no usable data connection or are out of data coverage.

If I have no mobile data, can I still know somebody called?

Where the missed-call email conditions are met, SimBuster can notify you by email so you can see the missed call when you regain access.

Does a missed call automatically become voicemail?

No. A caller must actually reach a configured voicemail route and leave a recording for you to receive a voicemail.

Can I use my normal mobile phone voicemail instead?

Yes. Route the SimBuster call to your external PSTN mobile number. If your mobile carrier’s voicemail is enabled and answers the forwarded call, the message is stored by that carrier.

Will my normal mobile voicemail be sent by SimBuster email?

No. A voicemail answered by your external mobile or landline provider belongs to that provider. SimBuster voicemail-to-email is a separate feature.

Can I forward a SimBuster number to a landline with an answering machine?

A supported PSTN forwarding route can send the call to the landline. What happens after the landline answers is controlled by the destination equipment or provider.

Does forwarding to my mobile use Call Credit?

External PSTN forwarding can use Call Credit or the applicable calling allowance for the onward call leg.

If my mobile network voicemail answers, can forwarding charges continue while the caller leaves a message?

The external forwarded call remains connected to the PSTN destination while the destination voicemail is handling the call, so the applicable external forwarding usage can continue for that connected call.

Can I use AI Assistant instead of voicemail?

Yes. AI Assistant can speak with supported callers, answer routine questions and capture information conversationally. Voicemail is simpler when you only need the caller to leave a recorded message.

Which is better: voicemail or AI Assistant?

Use voicemail when you want a simple recorded message. Use AI Assistant when you want an automated conversation, questions answered or structured information collected.

Can voicemail work if my SimBuster app is closed?

Voicemail is handled by the configured network call flow rather than requiring you to personally answer the app call. The SimBuster number and relevant Receptionist or voicemail route still need to be active.

Will voicemail work if my phone has no data?

If the caller is routed to SimBuster voicemail through an active network call flow, the voicemail service does not depend on you personally having data at that moment. This is different from asking the SimBuster app on your phone to ring.

How quickly does voicemail arrive by email?

Delivery normally requires the voicemail to finish recording and process before the email is sent. If it does not arrive, check spam, the receiving inbox and the live call-flow configuration.

What should I ask callers to leave?

Usually their name, callback number and a short reason for calling. Ask for additional information only if it is genuinely useful.

Should callers leave passwords or payment-card information?

No. Your voicemail greeting can explicitly tell callers not to leave passwords, security codes or card details.

Can I forward a voicemail email to a colleague?

You can manage the received email using your email provider, but only share voicemail recordings with people who legitimately need access to the caller’s information.

How do I know which SimBuster number the caller dialled?

Use the information available in the voicemail email and SimBuster call records. For businesses with several numbers, keep your call flows and receiving inboxes organised.

Why does my forwarded mobile voicemail answer even though SimBuster voicemail is not enabled?

Because the destination mobile network can have its own voicemail. Once the SimBuster call has been forwarded to that PSTN number, the destination provider controls what happens when the mobile is not answered.

How do I stop calls going to my carrier voicemail?

Change the voicemail or unanswered-call settings with the destination carrier, answer before its voicemail timer expires, or choose a different SimBuster call route.

How do I stop using SimBuster voicemail?

Edit the relevant Receptionist or call-flow branch and replace the voicemail destination with another supported route, then test the live number.

What should I test before relying on voicemail for business calls?

Test the exact live number, the greeting, the recording, email delivery, playback, caller information, after-hours logic and every department route that uses voicemail.
